My definition of event photography may be broader than the norm, taking in as it does a wide range of subjects - from large public occasions such as sporting events to the intimacy of weddings. I approach events in the same way I would approach a magazine feature or a documentary project, telling the story from beginning to end. The first event I worked on was a wedding in a small church on Exmoor, but in the last year or two, I've also expanded my work to include covering music gigs and sports events and I look forward to adding more to my portfolio in the future. Photojournalism provides a completely different challenge to business or event photography, but it’s one of the most enjoyable lines of work I have ever done. I love the buzz. It’s fast paced with tight deadlines and the competition from other photographers just pushes me harder to make my images stand out. I've worked as a features photographer for the Exmoor Magazine for the last four years and more recently as a freelance press and features photographer for the Western Morning News and Western Daily Press. Several of my commissions have also featured nationally in the Times, the Metro, the Telegraph, and internationally via Turkey's Anadolu Agency. The power of images to tell a story, or to sell a product or service, is not in question but this power can be enhanced through the use of video. If you are a business, what better way to start to build the relationship with new customers than allowing them to meet you when they first visit your website? And what better way to sell your product or service than by talking directly to your customers about that product or service? For the media, when used in conjunction with quality images, short video segments can enhance the reader's experience of the story by bringing the people and events at the heart of the story to life. On location, interviews allow the viewer to see and hear from the people involved directly and in their own words, and videos of events such as extreme weather, music, drama and sports can bring the viewer into that event as if they are there, giving them a better understanding of the story and enhancing their experience of your website. The public’s enthusiasm for video online is ever increasing and for media publications and businesses alike, this enthusiasm should not be ignored.
